Decimals - Mathematics
Weaknesses
(1)Rounding off
Pupils tend to forget that when they are requested to round off to nearest tenths, they are required to write their answers to 1 decimal place even if the digit in tenths is "0".
For example, 1.95 rounded off to nearest tenths is 2.0. Not 2.
For example, 1.998 rounded off to nearest hundredths is 2.00. Not 2 or 2.0.
They need to read carefully what they are requested to round off their decimals to.
(2) For money, pupils must remember to leave their answers with 2 decimal answers , unless it's a whole number. Like $2.80, not $2.8.
(3) In long division, some pupils wrote their answers as 0.56R3. They must not leave their answers as such. They have been reminded to add .0 to the dividend to obtain the quotient.
If the pupils is requested to round off their quotient to nearest tenths, they only need to work up to the hundredths.
